Richard Voogt

Richard Voogt, director of Rhythm & Vibes Dance Co. (formerly Dsantos Dance UK) is from Cape Town, South Africa. Richard is a trained Biochemist (MSc) but discovered dancing whilst studying at University. On first participating in Salsa & Bachata in 2007, he was captivated by the welcoming nature of the dance community. After moving to the USA he was introduced to Kizomba, Semba & Afrohouse/Kuduro in 2010. Richard had the fortune of training as well as living with Angolans (the country of Kizomba, Semba & Kuduros’ origins) which gave him a profound insight into the cultural context of these styles. After performing across the USA as an amateur, Richard returned to the UK in 2015 to start his own school and turn professional. Richard continues to teach regularly in his school whilst at the same time traveling internationally to teach and perform at some of the biggest dance events around the world. In 2020, Richard Voogt & RV Dance were recognized by the Arts Council of England & HM Government for the contribution made to culture, receiving a Cultural Recovery Grant to support its continued success.
